- The Gragg Team Gives Back
The Rockin’ with Gragg Team arrived at 9am sharp recently to a vacant studio in Overland Park. A strip of tape with the message of “only gymnast beyond this point” was still on the carpet. We met Michelle, who was with SAFEHOME, and a few more volunteers. Our mission – to clean. The interior of the gym was large and empty, a few shelves were hanging on the walls covered in dust. Amanda jumped right on the vacuum, Travis went straight to the bathrooms while Tara and Lacy started dusting. John helped another volunteer hang paper in the windows. The purpose of the paper is to keep wondering shoppers out because Safe Home is turning the vacant building into a Holiday Store.
Every year, SAFEHOME provides a Holiday Store where their clients can select gifts for loved ones at no charge. SAFEHOME sets up a storefront with donations from the community to look like a retail store. Clients are able to schedule appointments to “shop” for both themselves and their children.
Michelle said that after all donations are there it would be full of toys and clothes for their clients to shop. Michelle guessed that 600 families would shop there this year. Our cleaning was a small part of the project but it feels good to help and they were very appreciative. It was great for the team to help an organization that betters the lives of so many.
SAFEHOME is an organization that provides shelter, advocacy and prevention education in the community for victims and their children of domestic abuse. Find out more about Safe Home and how you can contribute at www.safehome-ks.org.
